Hey, for me it's live!
It starts with Morgan Freeman. This is good.
HEEE at the Billy Crystal montage spoofing the candidates, especially Beginners with Clooney kissing him! And yes, that quip about Hugo is the same thing I thought: a Scorsese movie and nobody dies gruesomely?
WOOO James Earl Jones. I'll WOOO a lot tonight.
Did I glimpse John Hurt (Control) in the audience? Rewinding is not allowed!
WOOO, Tom Hanks looks fine with a goatee!
First of a predictably long line of Oscars for Hugo. WOOO, the cinematography guy might be a decent Blackfish!
And second Oscar for Hugo: Set Decoration. By an Italian team! Who, rather unexpectedly, dedicate the Oscar to Italy.
The usual nice montage of great movies and iconic scenes.
Cameron has a nice dress. Jennifer, not so much. According to what she says, she's not a lady...
At least Harry Potter fans have had a glimpse of Jason Isaacs. Doesn't make up for the lack of nomination for Alan Rickman, but...
First Oscar for The Iron Lady: Make Up. Admittedly Maggie's look was perfect.
Is it just me or the speeches this year are REALLY short?
Hillary Swank would look better with the Million Dollar Baby haircut.
It's rather historical that Iran wins for the first time with the Foreign Language movie.
YAY here comes the Supporting Actress! And YAY for Octavia Spencer! First Oscar for The Help. Oh my, here we cry! "I'm sorry I'm freaking out" is my new password.
WOOO first appearance of Christopher Plummer!
Third Oscar for Hugo: Sound Editing. And YAY, I saw Optimus Prime!
And fourth for Sound Mixing. I'm not geeky enough to distinguish these technical categories...
Nice shout-out to Chris with a clip of the Sound of Music kiss in the Cirque du Soleil number. HEEE at the mention of the great old men nominated, Chris and Max von Sydow!
WOOO RDJ in character as an obnoxious Tony Stark with a sassy Pepper!
Thanks for the fanservice again, Jason.
Fifth Oscar for Hugo: Visual Effects! The sweep goes on...
WOOO COLIN
WOOO SUPPORTING ACTOR
And I do have to pause the viewing here, because Chris Plummer WINS - some fifteen years after I fell in love with him as the Duke of Wellington in "Waterloo", coming out of a dark period and beginning a better one which has given me many of the best friends I have. (Re-enactment anyone?) It seems he's the oldest Oscar winner at 82, but he looks younger than Nick Nolte, who's frankly scary. His speech is funny and moving. GO CHRIS!
WOOO there's the sweet doggie from Beginners, one of the reasons why I cried so much during that movie! (SPOILER: The dog ends up all right.)
Penelope Cruz has a really lovely dress and jewels.
Hmmm, we're going to get an eyeful of Colin. Did I mention he was awesome in Tinker Tailor in the role nobody would ever guess?
Oh wow, was that Jeremy Irons?
Woody Allen's script really did impress me as terrible and... WOO EDWARD NORTON AND RDJ AND MORGAN FREEMAN
Milla Jovovich is very elegant too.
Nice that The Shore wins for Short Film, because Ciaràn Hinds is in it! (wrong accent, I know) I'll have to see that too.
The buxom lady from Bridesmaids (sorry, she was nominated but I forgot her name!) has a very becoming dress too, I think. Maybe I just love shiny things.
Directing: The Artist wins. I confess this too disappoints me. I should see the movie but it doesn't attract me in the least.
Oh, you mean the dog is from the Artist and not Beginners? This could be a reason to watch the Artist.
Meryl's gold dress is beautiful but not very flattering for her.
Oh my, the tribute to the departed movie people of the year, among which Liz Taylor. This is usually a beautiful montage. People wonder why I'm so crazy about the Oscar, well, it's for these simple but beautiful things.
O HAI EDWARD are you going grey???
Natalie Portman's dress is nice too, but I perceive a trend: classical lines with simple diamonds (!) at the neck and ears.
Lead actor: this better not disappoint me...
Eh, the clip they choose for Gary is the same I thought was his best scene, the imaginary conversation.
DRAT. Oh well, Gary's SO YOUNG, he's got time until he's 82 and beyond!
Ok, I'll console myself with the sight of Colin Firth, the Oscar winner starring as a supporting, TOTALLY insignificant character in Tinker Tailor (ok, sorry, I'll stop now!)
I'm even more in admiration of Viola Davis for the transformation she underwent for The Help. Well, Rooney Mara is impressive too!
Colin is so funny, remembering Mamma Mia with Meryl.
Ah, predictable victory of Meryl. I wonder if I've missed something of that movie. Is she... trying to put the Oscar in a pocket? OK, after this I'll start touting Meryl as the Blackfish.
Best Picture: rooting so hard for Hugo and the Help.
Nah, the Artist again. Why am I so cool about it?
Well, that's it. I've had a great pleasure and a couple of other satisfactions, so I'm glad I've done this. Now I have a splitting headache and I'm going to eat something though it's 1am. Resuming usual internet activity tomorrow!
