TWO SONGS FOR OPTIMUS

(volevi proprio battere Starscream, vero?)

PRIME TIME di Alan Parsons Project.

(you just had to upstage the Screamer, right?)

PRIME TIME by Alan Parsons Project. OK, this is sort of a joke, the words have almost nothing to do with our hero, but the video is BEAUTIFUL. (unless you're afraid of mannequins, in which case sorry for the pic above... it doesn't give the idea of the video at all!)

ANTHEM by Leonard Cohen. If Optimus could sing, this would be very close to his voice (and not Paul McCartney, sorry Opti - yeah, I'll post it sooner or later). I like Cohen better in earlier days, with a lighter voice, but he's always a genius. I saw him in concert in Milan when this album (The Future) came out, and he was magic, I still have the T-shirt. The video, though not a Cohen video, is very relaxing.

The words too are totally Optimus, so here they are. They might be spoken to Starscream. Whether he listens or not, that's a whole other matter... I don't want him redeemed at all costs, I want him interesting at all costs.

ANTHEM
The birds they sang at the break of day
Start again, I heard them say
Don't dwell on what has passed away
Or what is yet to be.

Yeah the wars, they will be fought again
The holy dove, she will be caught again
Bought and sold and bought again
The dove is never free.

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.

We asked for signs, the signs were sent:
The birth betrayed, the marriage spent
Yeah the widowhood of every government -
Signs for all to see.

I can run no more with that lawless crowd
While the killers in high places say their prayers out loud.
But they've summoned, they've summoned up a thundercloud
and they're going to hear from me.

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.

You can add up the parts but you won't have the sum
You can strike up the march, there is no drum
Every heart, every heart to love will come
but like a refugee.

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...
